Today’s Math: 5 Kids = Political Qualification, by Sherri Shepard

September 3rd, 2008

Apparently being a mother of five makes you qualified enough to be the Vice President.  This is according to Sherri Shepard (shaking my head and gasping) of ABC’s The View.  If you are a mother of at least five and have any PTA experience (coordinating refreshments definitely counts!!!), then you should consider yourself more qualified that Barack Obama and not only vote in the upcoming elections, but also begin the process of running for the Oval Office!  Hurry because you only have four years to get it together.  If you have any doubts about winning, just remember that all women will vote for you just because you are woman.

How insane is all of this?  Check out this video of the hosts of The View making the case for Sarah Palin.  I must say that I wholeheartedly agree with Joy.  We have no problem with McCain selecting a woman as a candidate for the office of the vice president, it’s just that there were way too many other qualified women in key leadership positions that could have been tremendous picks for the position.  What is Karl Rove and McCain up to?  Everything done in dark will soon come to light…

Comedy Skit… or Reality???

September 2nd, 2008

I used to watch Saturday Night Live religiously and there would always be a presidential comedy bit about some situation that you just knew would never happen. Funny thing is that nothing beats reality.

Seriously, are die hard McCain fans still around???  I know many think that his VP choice was a bad decision, but another bad decision was picking Tucker Bounds to speak on behalf of his campaign.  I find it hilarious that the Republican mantra is to deflect any questions that you cannot answer onto something negative about your opponent.  This guy could not answer one question in a straight forward manner.   So does this mean that Tucker is just unprepared (With the stage of the Republican National Convention in the background)? Or does this support the idea that McCain shot himself in the foot by picking Palin?  If McCain is making bad decisions well before being elected into office, I’m scared to see what happens if he even makes it to office.

I really believe that he and his campaign are more prepared to face the issues of the campaign trail as well as the presidency. Check out this hilarious SNL skit CNN interview!

Maybe I Don’t Get It

September 2nd, 2008

I’m sitting here thinking to myself that, maybe I just don’t get it.  I spent all of last week glued to the blogs, news reports and debates between the political analysts trying to gather a wealth of information from which to draw my own conclusions about the Democratic convention.  It was my first time being so involved, but I concluded that it was a great and exciting week.  Much of it included the dreadful political rhetoric that most have grown to hate, but as I sifted through the sand there were many gems to be seen.  This convention was historic because it climaxed with the nomination of America’s first African American presidential candidate by a major party.  It was even more exciting because the political dynasty of the Clintons ultimately gave a public approval of Barack Obama.  I really thought things were on the up and up for what America was potentially about to experience…. but maybe I’m wrong.

I have to admit that I am saddened by the fact that Black people are consistent to severely criticize  Barack Obama on issues to which we have never seriously challenged any other President or elected official.  Case and point – John Lewis.  This guy has been in Congress for over 20 years and hasn’t done much of anything, but most years he runs un-opposed.  It’s almost like he gets a pass because he walked with Martin Luther King.  Anyway, the point I’m making is that a lot of African Americans refuse to support Barack Obama because he isn’t running on a “Pro-Black” platform.  I think it is important to note that anyone that runs on a “pro-ethnic” platform on behalf of any ethnicity would surely be committing political suicide.  It’s like the Black community is upset because he’s not outlining his plan to make Blacks an elite ethnic group.

Maybe I’m just speculating, or maybe I just don’t get it.  I noticed how most of our “leaders” from the Civil Rights era opposed his presidential bid in the beginning stages, which baffled me because it seemed as if this would be the ultimate success story for them.  Now these same leaders, and other social mouth pieces, are the ones most critical of him, instead of embracing him and sharing our concerns with him, or lobbying on behalf of the interests of our community.  Barack has said that he would like to do right by all of America, not just one race – which means that he shouldn’t or wouldn’t outline an agenda specific to one race of Americans.  For a people that has suffered oppression for so long, it seems like we would support a candidate that seeks to unify America and at least try to have us live out our creed.  I have often heard that the oppressed often take on the mentality of the oppressor.

I don’t know, maybe I just don’t get it.  Am I a bad person in the eyes of Black America because I’m not pro Black Power.  Do I deserve the same criticism because I support Barack’s total view?  Somebody help me understand.

Very Interesting Article on Sarah Palin

August 29th, 2008

I came across a very interesting article on Sarah Palin, John McCain’s surprise, slip me a Mickey, choice for vice-President.  Apparently not too many in the general public had any idea of who she was until now.  This Article is written by an Alaskan and it is a very good read.  Please check it out here :

What is McCain Thinking? One Alaskan’s Perspective.

Also, many news sources are reporting that there is little evidence that Palin and McCain even know each other.  Reports are that they only met once back in February.  I’m not sure about this one.  I can’t understand for the life of me why a Presidential candidate would choose someone he hardly knows as a candidate to support him and his administration and potentially be the leader of the free world.  Sounds really fishy.  If all of this is true, does this proove that McCain is truly out of touch?  Does it proove that he’s doing nothing but playing the same crazy political games that have decimated our economy and standing with the international community and Americans at home?

Media is also reporting that this pick may bring dissension in the Republican party.  Many in the party feel that Pawlenty and others were merely used as distractions while McCain went “out on a limb” and picked Palin for the shock value of it all.  This is definitely not a great way to start off your “administration”.  If you don’t believe me, ask your mentor G. W. Bush.  He alienated almost all of the international allies for personal and selfish reasons and look where it got us – going billions of dollars in debt funding a war to help”victims” that have an economy with a $79 billion surplus.  Great work G.W.  I can’t wiat to read the history books on this one.

Anyways.  Just trying to put some “brainmunchies” out there.  Just think about it.

Media Muscle?

July 26th, 2008

I can’t help but wonder if CNN is flexing its Media Muscle right now. A lot of African American oriented blogs and radio talk shows are discussing the motives and validity of the network’s ambitious adventure to provide the world insight into our culture. The general consensus seems to be that this was truly a missed opportunity to provide a substantive cultural look at Blacks in America, although other people feel that indeed some purpose is served because somewhere the light bulb is going off in someone’s head.

Not only is this presentation being heavily covered in almost every aspect of the African American society, mainstream media has also given great attention to the topic. A frenzy has been created that has encouraged everyone to watch (Hey, American Idol’s over right?) and prepare themselves for the next day’s water cooler conversation. I can’t turn my head or radio station without some mention of “Black In America”. So now that CNN has our attention, what is the real purpose behind this documentary? I feel that they truly missed the mark on the goal they purported to fulfill, but what I’m not sure of is whether or not this was done with an underlying mission in mind. Yeah, it’s time for the conspiracy theory talk… just feel me out for a moment.

Just shy of about two months ago CNN was dubbed the “Clinton News Network” because many people asserted that it’s presentation of Democratic Primary related events were unfairly biased towards the Clintons. For whatever reason there seemed to be a very sincere loyalty to the Clinton campaign, and CNN’s unbridled media flex muscle, strong enough to shape the opinions of its faithful demographic and others, was working to tilt the election scale undeniably towards the Clintons. From this premise, can we assume that the network’s news was not fair and unbalanced, and this loyalty that was so strong would last even beyond a candidate selection by the Democratic Party? If so, then a special such as “Black In America” would be very timely.

It is very well possible that the Nation may have it’s first African American president, but media slip ups continue to plague honest campaign efforts. Is it any coincidence that even though Obama professes to be a Christian, the media continues to sew the ideas of a connection between him and fundamental Islamic extremists? Is it by chance that The New Yorker created a “satirical” cover reinforcing these stereotypes when I’m sure those guys are more than smart enough to understand that there are many people that will simply believe what they see with no absolutely no personal interpretation? I won’t even get into that Jeremiah Wright fiasco that the media birthed. With all of this preceding “Black in America”, why can’t one believe that as Obama gains momentum against McCain, a major network would market and present the world a contemporary view into life in America as a Black person and merely reinforce stereotypes and negative statistics that would otherwise been seen nightly on one of their news broadcasts? Great amounts of money were spent to create the attention this series has gotten. Was this to subconsciously cause a connection between the ills of Black America and the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee? This could have a lot of social dis-associative power.

Many will read this and point out that it had been stated that this was done 18-22 months in advance and was done to acknowledge the 40th year anniversary of the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. Can we consider that yes, this footage could have taken close to two years to shoot, but we’re dealing with a network that runs a 24 / 7 news machine that edits on the fly to keep up with a fast paced world. It could be that commentary for the show was recorded a few different ways so that they could adapt this documentary to the message that was to be sent in the social climate of the time it aired. I’m just speculating.

Forty years later and Blacks in America have made significant positive strides, but this show doesn’t accurately reflect so. Obama is currently making unprecedented advances in his current trip to Europe, The UK and The Middle East, trying to repair and strengthen relationships with the leaders of this world. He is very peaceful and respectful in his approach and has been very warmly received. What better way to commemorate the 40th year of King’s assassination than to fairly present the potential of the ultimate dream come true. Why continue to focus on the negative? Unless there are some ulterior motives…

When You Thought Stupid Couldn’t Get Any Stupider…

WTF is up with this dude???  Well, they got him now.

Thug Comparison…

August 23rd, 2007

Okay, well maybe I shouldn’t have used the word thug, but since the media wants to misuse the word and create thoughts for the millions of people that are unwilling to think for themselves, I figured I would too. Anyways, let’s get to the point of this little thing here. I have my own suspicions, but you can just look at what I have here and gather your own emotions and feelings. Take the following subjects:

Michael Vick was once the face of the NFL and the Atlanta Falcons. On Monday, August 27th, he will plead guilty to felony conspiracy (he is not pleading guilty to fighting dogs or gambling, contrary to what most of the media is saying). He faces up to 5 Years in prison, although he may only serve between 12 and 22 months and earn a permanent ban from the NFL.

Arthur Blank – Really really rich guy that has earned the bulk of his money through the intelligent construction of the Home Depot brand. He recently became the owner of the Atlanta Falcons and brought the organization to prominence through incredibly effective marketing strategies. In 2003 he settled a lawsuit with a woman that worked for the Falcons organization that brought forth claims of sexual harassment and discrimination. The terms of this “settlement” or uh, “plea agreement” (depends on how you look at it) were not disclosed. How many Falcons fans are women? Why didn’t anyone protest this? Season ticket sales didn’t decline… did they? If anything, Blank should have sympathy for Michael Vick and stop playing the victim… sexual harassment and discrimination based on sexual orientation are against the law right? Oh, okay, so it must be because Blank has more money than Vick?… right?????

Patrick Kearney - Once a Defensive End for the Atlanta Falcons and now a member of the Seattle Seahawks. Kearney was at home sleep when allegedly a woman was raped in his home. Apparently three guys followed her to his house where one allegedly sexually assaulted her. Can anyone explain to me how all of this could go on and this guy sleeps through the whole thing? Well the end result is this, Kearney has reportedly said that he was the victim in the whole situation and was comforting his friend through all of this. In other words, nothing ever came of all of this. There was no mention of Kearney at all in the police report. He is now living a great life in Seattle with a chance to restart his career. So does this mean that the NFL tolerates sexual discrimination, harassment and assault on the owner and player levels but not dogfighting? One may argue that Kearney had nothing to do with the situation, but let me offer this. Kearney lived at the house where a crime happened and was not charged… Michael Vick wasn’t even in the state and is somehow held responsible for everything that went on at a house he owns.

I just don’t get it. Nobody said life would be fair, but damn man.

I’ll throw in these last two just for amusement:

Nicole Richie – Richie is rich and famous simply because she is the daughter of Lionel Richie. She was caught driving the wrong way on an interstate in Burbank while under the influence of marijuana and Vicodin… obviously a threat to society. What happens? 82 minutes in jail with no explanation for her early release by authorities.

Lindsay Lohan – Actress. What else can I say about her? She has had multiple DUI’s, including a few before she was even 21. She has been caught with cocaine in her possession, violated probation numerous times and had a bit of road rage that could have potentially turned wreckless endangerment and maybe even attempted murder if the driver of the other vehicle had lost control…and what does she get?? 1 Day in Jail. People argue that she is young and that we should help her and take care of her so that she can have a better shot at life. Well, dammit so should Mike Vick.

There are more law makers and enforcers drive drunk than those that fight dogs. I’m just sayin….

A Different View…

Genarlow Wilson is still in Jail

Scooter Libby never went.

What’s the difference?  Can someone explain that to me?

Artist Responsibility??…

June 5th, 2007

“I am not a role model.” These are words that were once uttered by NBA basketball legend Charles Barkley and were representative of the reality in which he lived. His stance on his life had significant implications on the celebrity – civilian relationships that existed in society. Did this statement mean that artists, athletes, celebrities, political figures, etc., had no right to be default role models simply because of their socioeconomic status? Were we only to admire them and promote their “non-role model” lives by viewing every movie they were in, buying every CD they created or buying the shoes, drinks, and clothes they endorsed? Were we not to hold them in some way accountable for the way they carried themselves in society? The Situation gets sticky here.

Paparazzi and corporate media, camera / video phones, blogs, wiki’s, YouTube, Flickr and other similar entities have caused the line between personal and public to become even smaller for celebrities. There are some people that think that because you are a celebrity, you must constantly be indebted to society and your privacy is the price to be paid. For a reason that I’ve yet to theorize upon, so many people have an obsession with private lives of public figures. This obsession causes people to want more and more and more… more pictures, more gossip and more video, while advances in technology help fuel the addiction.

The incessant desire to know as much possible about a favorite celebrity is nothing new. With this in mind, it seems that people would live their lives accordingly. When you reach a certain status in society you have to live your life like the whole world will know everything sooner than later. You can’t just be careless but there are people that are stalking for an opportunity to take advantage of your success and your whole life can slip away because of one simple mistake.

With all that said check out this video and tell me what you think:

Is this a situation where someone with a video phone was recording a star and disrespecting that star’s right to privacy? Because I’m sure if this show was to be officially recorded that it would have been done professionally. Or should we as consumers of his products hold him accountable for the way he acts? Last I checked, the consumer has the most power. I don’t know, maybe I’m trippin, but Akon is off the hook with the crazy stuff he does and I can’t support him or the things he gets involved in. If I’m over reacting to the situation, just holla at me and let me know.

AIRLINE LEG ROOOOOOOOOOOM and A Question about GENDER ROLES…

June 2nd, 2007

I was on a Delta Flight the other day and look how much room I had in my seat!!!

Yo for real, I think my knees are starting to get bad from flying a lot on airplanes that don’t give ANY stretch room! All my flights this year have been exactly like this. I remember back in the day where every airline commercial on TV spoke about how much leg room the planes had. Holla at ya boy please if you know of an airline that can help me stay away from the Ben Gay and Turpentine (yall don’t know about that… shouts out to my mom and my aunt for that one!).

Now for the Question:
I had a conversation the other day with a friend and she was telling me how she was in a beauty salon and some unmarried women (over age 30) were speaking about “men” and their gender roles. One of the comments made was that “A man wants to be the man in the relationship and that one of the things that makes a man happy is paying for everything.” She further explained by saying that “when a woman pays, it challenges the man’s role in the relationship and he doesn’t like that.” Women what do you think? Guys, What do you think?? Is there any merit to this? Holla at ya boy ON THE BLOG!!! I love my readers and all, but can we start putting our comments on the blog?? I know a lot of you call me and tell me what you think, but I want this to be a forum for discussion. GET AT ME!!! (on the blog!!!!!!)
