Just In Time…

We left Caracas yesterday headed for Guayaquil. It’s kind of interesting the way things played out. The day before, we were all trying to decide what time to leave for the airport because people were on the radio trying to organize another March against the government. Things are always a little crazy around the city whenever there is a March. Needless to say, we made it safely to Ecuador and it turns out we left just in time. I got to the Hotel and and checked my email to find my girlfriend asking me if I was okay because she had seen this on the net (Warning, the pictures may be graphic):

CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) – Gunmen opened fire on students returning from a march Wednesday in which 80,000 people denounced President Hugo Chavez’s attempts to expand his power. At least eight people were injured, including one by gunfire, officials said.

Photographers for The Associated Press saw at least four gunmen – their faces covered by ski masks or T-shirts – firing handguns at the anti-Chavez crowd. Terrified students ran through the campus as ambulances arrived.
