demonterious Just wondering… How do you know?
How do you know the voice of God when he’s speaking?
How can you distinguish the voice of God from all of the other voices in your head fighting for your attention?
At any moment, a million thoughts can run through your head… the thought that you allow to dominate can instantly keep you on the correct path designed for your life or it can set you a couple of years behind.
God always speaks, but are we always listening? Do we confuse our thoughts with his voice and make our own will the will of God? It’s easy to convince yourself that you’ve heard from God when it’s about something you really want.
God says that “My sheep know my voice”. How can you know the voice of God unless you spend time with him?
If you spent more time with him, you wouldn’t have to wonder if it’s his voice or not.
Ephesians 6:18 - And Pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests.
Just try prayer… It’s like quality time with the Father. I know that it will really make the difference.

demonterious “I am not a role model.” These are words that were once uttered by NBA basketball legend Charles Barkley and were representative of the reality in which he lived. His stance on his life had significant implications on the celebrity - civilian relationships that existed in society. Did this statement mean that artists, athletes, celebrities, political figures, etc., had no right to be default role models simply because of their socioeconomic status? Were we only to admire them and promote their “non-role model” lives by viewing every movie they were in, buying every CD they created or buying the shoes, drinks, and clothes they endorsed? Were we not to hold them in some way accountable for the way they carried themselves in society? The Situation gets sticky here.
Paparazzi and corporate media, camera / video phones, blogs, wiki’s, YouTube, Flickr and other similar entities have caused the line between personal and public to become even smaller for celebrities. There are some people that think that because you are a celebrity, you must constantly be indebted to society and your privacy is the price to be paid. For a reason that I’ve yet to theorize upon, so many people have an obsession with private lives of public figures. This obsession causes people to want more and more and more… more pictures, more gossip and more video, while advances in technology help fuel the addiction.
The incessant desire to know as much possible about a favorite celebrity is nothing new. With this in mind, it seems that people would live their lives accordingly. When you reach a certain status in society you have to live your life like the whole world will know everything sooner than later. You can’t just be careless but there are people that are stalking for an opportunity to take advantage of your success and your whole life can slip away because of one simple mistake.
With all that said check out this video and tell me what you think:
Is this a situation where someone with a video phone was recording a star and disrespecting that star’s right to privacy? Because I’m sure if this show was to be officially recorded that it would have been done professionally. Or should we as consumers of his products hold him accountable for the way he acts? Last I checked, the consumer has the most power. I don’t know, maybe I’m trippin, but Akon is off the hook with the crazy stuff he does and I can’t support him or the things he gets involved in. If I’m over reacting to the situation, just holla at me and let me know.

demonterious Just wanted to post some pictures I took while in NY.
The first pic was taken in Rose Hall at Jazz at Lincoln Center. I don’t even know if I should have taken this pic, but I had to be fast with it. It is a pic of Wynton Marsalis’ septet in rehearsal for the music of “In This House, On this Morning”. I was taking pics very openly until Wynton came out and gave me an interesting look. It’s funny because I never found out what that look meant. So I just hid the camera from that point on. AFAR bandmate Doron Jazz was playing piano in this band with the likes of Wynton, Reginald Veal, Wycliffe Gordon and Herlin Riley:

I was in a cab that was honking it’s horn like crazy at some dude that had 3 lanes of traffic blocked. I was cheering the cabbie on until I saw this: Read the rest of this entry »

demonterious So last week I had to go back to New York. These trips are usually great because I love the city so much, but this time was a little different. This was the first time this year that I was able to go there and not have to take my bass with me (especially with my black flight case that someone inevitably asks “Hey, is that a gun?”… a question that seems to trigger unrest amonst the couple hundred passengers around me and a question that I’m sure will one day award me a trip to the Homeland Security office before I can make it to the oversized luggage check in). This was also the first time this year that I’ve simply just had to go to meeting, which meant time to enjoy myself and not have to rush back home for a gig or something. I honestly was having a great time until…

demonterious I was on a Delta Flight the other day and look how much room I had in my seat!!!

Yo for real, I think my knees are starting to get bad from flying a lot on airplanes that don’t give ANY stretch room! All my flights this year have been exactly like this. I remember back in the day where every airline commercial on TV spoke about how much leg room the planes had. Holla at ya boy please if you know of an airline that can help me stay away from the Ben Gay and Turpentine (yall don’t know about that… shouts out to my mom and my aunt for that one!).
Now for the Question:
I had a conversation the other day with a friend and she was telling me how she was in a beauty salon and some unmarried women (over age 30) were speaking about “men” and their gender roles. One of the comments made was that “A man wants to be the man in the relationship and that one of the things that makes a man happy is paying for everything.” She further explained by saying that “when a woman pays, it challenges the man’s role in the relationship and he doesn’t like that.” Women what do you think? Guys, What do you think?? Is there any merit to this? Holla at ya boy ON THE BLOG!!! I love my readers and all, but can we start putting our comments on the blog?? I know a lot of you call me and tell me what you think, but I want this to be a forum for discussion. GET AT ME!!! (on the blog!!!!!!)

demonterious
It’s summer time and even though the kids get a break from the monotonous day to day of school and everything that comes with it, the parents don’t really get a break from work. So what can the kids do with all of that extra time while the parents are somewhere trying to make a living???? Go to a park? Read a book? Volunteer at the local assisted living community home? Nah!!!! None of that boring crap!! The kids can come play ROCK MUSIC with me and the other teachers at the Day Jams Rock Music Camp!!!

Marc, my AFAR band mate and I are both instructors for the music camp and I’ll be teaching bass to any child that’s willing to learn! All of the students will get a chance to learn their instrument, play in a band, play with faculty, write a song and record a CD! If this is something you’d be interested in just let me know so I can pass you the details!! It doesn’t matter what level the child is at, we will work with them all.
