In and Around Maputo

Yesterday was a light day for us here in Maputo. We didn’t have any workshops or shows scheduled. We only had two radio interviews and a “jam session”. The only thing with the jam session is that they wanted us to set up outside…as a dark, dark cloud was setting up for it’s own “jam session” right over our heads. One thing I’ve learned in my life is that water and electricity don’t mix too well. It’s not a collaboration that anyone should aspire to have. Anyways, check out these pics from in and around Maputo.
We stopped by the cultural affairs building during the course of the day and found a Portugese version of AFAR just hangin around:

Here is another hotel pic. The rooms are really Holiday Inn ish, but everything else is really beautiful. This may be the last hotel pic:

Well, it may not be the last one! Ha Ha. I got up early in the morning to call home and I figured which way was east (the way home!!!), so maybe when we come back to this hotel Thursday night I can get up early again to try and get pics of the sunrise over the ocean. I’m not promising anything!
For you seafood lovers, we went to a place called Costa Do Sol. It’s the oldest restaurant in Maputo. Check out this pic of Prawns (from l to r: lobster, lobster, big prawn, medium prawn, small prawn – that’s how they’re sold):

Big Prawns!

I was trying to do the artistic thing with the camera! I’m still learning and I have a long way to go before I call myself a “photographer”, but I’m working on it!!!! This is DoronJazz and JBerry at the Costa Do Sol:

Yet another Freestyle Cipher…It’s like everywhere we go people want to freestyle. I guess it’s cool because it shows who really has talent, but I’m getting a bit tired of those! This pic is classic hip hop…Freestyle Cipher with the grafitti backdrop:

We had a brief opportunity to ride around the city. These are four city pics. Make your own captions… tell me what you think:

Those are some crazy pics my man. I recently saw a documentary on MTV with Jay-Z & he was in Africa talking about how what we (USA) think is the ghetto…is n ot even close to the true ghettos of Africa. Proof positive right there.

It had little kids playing basketball in the street & the ball would roll into sewage. They would rub it off & start right back up with the game. Unreal.

Keep up the good pics & words my man. Love to the AFAR crew.

    Peace,
