Doing what you love…

When I was growing up, it seemed like the norm was for people to work 8 hours a day for 5 days a week, and the rest of the time was to be spent with family and friends. Now, there seems to have been a shift that has everyone working hard on Saturdays, Sundays and all times in between. People don’t rest anymore, people don’t kick it with their families anymore. Malls and stores stay open until 10:00 or later and it’s not even a holiday. What has happened to us??I’m blessed because I have the opportunity to work doing something I love. The flip side to that is that I’m always doing what I love. It’s almost like I have to schedule time for rest because I’m trying to squeeze so much “work” in. And that brings me to another querstion, How many people actually do what they love?… do what they were placed on earth to do? Better yet, how many people stress themselves out over jobs that they hate? How many people loose all of their personal time to jobs that aren’t going anywhere and will never satisfy you because you have a greater calling in you that is being ignored.
The truth is this, I stay tired from working, but I love what I do and it makes working hard worthwhile. I loose almost a lot of my free time to doing what God has placed in me to do. And it’s truly gratifying.
I challenge you to explore the gifts in you and make great use of them. This way, your life will be of better value to yourself and those around you. Remember life isn’t always about you, but it’s sometimes about being a means to blessing someone else. How can you do that if you’re not where you’re supposed to be??
Peace

I tend to agree with you that people often spend what is seemingly an exorbitant amount of time doing things that are very likely outside of their true calling the
fact remains that we often times eliminate the choice to do what we really love for the mantle of responsibility and doing the right thing.

People have taken the focus off of what is important: God, family, and then job. A lot of people are all about having more that the next person. How many cars can you drive at one time? For a family of two, what’s up with the six bedrooms? There’s nothing wrong with these things; however, if obtaining them takes away your intimate time with God and your family, then that’s just plain wrong!

I feel you on this one. I’m in a situation where I love my job, but I also know that I’ve been called to do something more meaningful. I feel like there’s a compromise between (cushioned)survival and stepping out on faith to do something that may not be as materially rewarding. I’m at the ledge, but I’m afraid to jump…
